Aston Hotel, Sheffield
_space has just seen completion of the latest addition to the rapidly expanding chain of business-traveler friendly hotels Aston owns, in Sheffield.
Aston, who found a niche in the market for affordable yet comfortable accommodation for the business user, have currently completed three hotels and are in various stages of progression with others. _space have been the architects for this project and are playing a role in other hotel projects for the company at present.
This hotel comprises 78 bedrooms, reception area, bar, restaurant, catering kitchen and conference facilities spread across four floors finished to high specification and associated parking.
The construction comprises steel frames on the ground floor, with ready-assembled Sweedish timber frames completing the remainder of the floors. This method of construction is not only cost effective, but also timesaving and therefore beneficial to the construction timetable. External elevations are a combination of render and fair-faced blockwork, with a full height curtain walling feature surrounded by an aluminium decorative banding to the main frontage. Windows are in polyester powder coated aluminium frames and roofing is in a flat single membrane system.
